Local Embedded Discrete Fracture Model (LEDFM)

The study of flow in fractured porous media is a key ingredient for many geoscience applications, such as reservoir management and geothermal energy production. Modelling simulation these highly heterogeneous geometrically complex systems require the adoption non-standard numerical schemes. Embedded Discrete Fracture Model (EDFM) simple effective way to account fractures with coarse regular grids, but it suffers from some limitations: assumes linear pressure distribution around fractures, which holds true only far tips fracture intersections, can be employed permeable only. In this paper we propose an improvement EDFM aims at overcoming limitations computing improved coupling between surrounding medium by (a) relaxing assumption, (b) accounting impermeable modifying near-fracture transmissibilities. These results are achieved solving different types local problems fine conforming grid, new transmissibilities (for connections those through itself near fractures). Such inspired upscaling techniques present literature. method called Local (LEDFM) obtained several tests confirm aforementioned improvements.
